Your child does something deemed inappropriate, and you put them on the naughty step. They talk back at you, and you issue an “electronics ban” as a consequence. Or you reward them with a sticker or a token for good listening.
These are all common parenting practices and most of us use them without thinking. But do consequences, punishments and rewards actually work? And how do we know if they are effective or not?
